Police have arrested the prime suspect in the gruesome murder of 81-year-old city consultant Dr Gerishon Mwiti, who was hacked to death on January 14, 2023, at Thigiri ridge in Westlands, Nairobi.

The suspect identified as Bernard Kioko was arrested on Wednesday afternoon at Mabatinin in Mathare's informal settlement.

Kioko who was a gardener at Mwiti’s home has been on the run since committing the heinous murder on Saturday.

His arrest followed a 24-hour manhunt for the suspect who engaged detectives in a hide-and-seek game while operating between Kitui County and Mwingi County.

A contingent of officers drawn from the Crime Research & Intelligence Bureau based at Nairobi regional command, DCI Gigiri and officers from Huruma police station conducted the operation.

Mwiti’s son Daniel Mwiti told the police that he found his father’s lifeless body in their garden with a deep cut at the back of his head.

Mwiti was a consultant at Transition Authority, an institute he founded and was also the chairman of the Ambassador Francis K Muthaura Foundation.

Detectives are currently interrogating Kioko to establish more details about the heinous murder of the city consultant.
