Renowned Kenyan rally driver Maxine Wahome might face murder charges over the bizarre murder of her boyfriend Asad Khan, who was also a top rally driver, in December 2022.

Maxine, who was last year arrested and arraigned in Nairobi but released on bond, on Thursday appeared before magistrate Bernard Ochoi for the mention of her case.

Asad succumbed to serious injuries sustained in the house he shared with Maxine following a domestic row and it remains unclear what transpired and how he sustained the wounds.

When Maxine was arraigned last year, Asad was still alive and at the time police officers were investigating the rally enthusiast for causing his boyfriend grievous bodily harm.

It is believed the rally lovebirds were involved in an ugly quarrel inside Asad’s apartment at Preston Court in Kileleshwa in which he sustained serious injuries and lost a lot of blood.

The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, through state counsel James Gachoka, on Thursday asked the court to allow police 14 days to finish their investigation into the death.

Magistrate Ochoi also dismissed an objection by Maxine’s lawyers to lawyer Cliff Ombeta representing Asad’s family in court arguing that she had not been charged with murder yet.

In his submission, Ombeta told the court that he had written to the DPP to order the investigating officer in the case to investigate some areas they felt were overlooked by the police.

The case will be mentioned on January 30 for the prosecution to confirm to the court if they have concluded their investigation into Asad's death with Maxine directed to report to the DCI every Wednesday until then.
