The family of Kenyan rally driver Asad Khan has made a passionate appeal to the public for blood donations days after he was allegedly assaulted by his girlfriend Maxine Wahome, who is also a rally driver.

In a statement, Asad’s family lauded those who had already donated blood to assist the celebrated rally driver but admitted that he still needed more blood in his hospital bed.

He remains admitted at Avenue Hospital in Nairobi, where he was relocated to after being initially taken to Nairobi Hospital following his attack under an unclear circumstance.

Asad’s family revealed that the rally driver, fondly nicknamed Kalulu, is currently fighting for his life due to the injuries sustained during the alleged domestic attack.

“We, the family of Asad Khan (Kalulu), hereby wish to express our utmost gratitude to all those who came forward to donate blood for Asad Kalulu. He remains in a serious critical condition and is fighting for his life,” the statement read.

It went on, “At this point, we wish to request all friends and well-wishers to kindly keep him in your prayers. The hospital team at Avenue hospital ICU require 5 pints of blood group A+ or O+ for his ongoing treatment.”


This comes a day after Asad’s girlfriend, Maxine Wahome, was released by a Nairobi court on a Sh100,000 cash bail as police conclude their probe into the alleged assault incident.

She was arrested on December 12 at an apartment in Kilimani after Adila Khan, Asad’s brother, filed a police report based on information from management of the apartment.

Police reportedly found the apartment where Asad and Maxine resided littered with household items with window and door pane glasses found shattered in the apartment.
