A police officer is on the run after a CCTV camera caught him ransacking a female invigilator’s handbag.

The officer who was assigned to secure the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) which is in progress at Kimulot Secondary School in Bomet County was allegedly seen entering a room where the invigilators keep their valuables and ransacked bags.

According to the Bomet County police commandant Mathews Mangira, three victims of the officer’s action recorded statements after finding their cash missing from their handbags.

Mangira said one victim reported the loss of Sh100 and another one reported they were missing Sh900 while the third victim reported they were missing Sh300.

The reports prompted the administration to review CCTV footage which revealed the culprit.

"One of the victims reported that she lost a hundred shillings, another lost nine hundred, while the other three hundred shillings, which prompted them to consult with the school administration to review the CCTV camera," Mangira said.

Mangira also said the detectives are reviewing the footage from which they hope to extract quality images which will be used to build the case against the suspect.
