Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) boss George Kinoti has summoned former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko to record a statement over his remarks about 2017 post-election riots.

Kinoti ordered Sonko to appear before the head of Serious Crimes Unit at the DCI headquarters on Monday to shed more light on claims in which he also roped in Interior PS Karanja Kibicho.

This comes day after Kibicho recorded a statement on the matter at DCI headquarters along Kiambu Road vowing to sue Sonko for libel for the remarks made at a public rally convened by Deputy President William Ruto in Dagoretti, Nairobi on Sunday.

Speaking after recording his statement on Monday, the PS said he will go after Sonko as a private citizen for tarnishing his name and challenged him to support his claims with evidence.

But a defiant Sonko dared Kibicho to sue him claiming to have evidence to back his claims that he, together with Kibicho, ‘deep state’ and ‘system’ were involved in the 2017 post poll riots and alleged assassination plot against ODM Party Leader Raila Odinga.

At a rally held by DP Ruto, Sonko claimed they had printed ODM t-shirts and bought used cars which they torched along Ngong Road in Nairobi so that the blame can be heaped on Odinga's party, which was then protesting the outcome of the 2017 presidential election.
