Tanzania’s Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa has rewarded a young man for his brave efforts that resulted in 26 people being rescued from the Precision Air plane crash on Sunday.

Regional Commissioner for Kagera Province Albert Chalamila announced Majaliwa had ordered him to give the man Tsh1 million, which is an equivalent of Sh52,144 in Kenya.

According to Chalamila, Majaliwa Jackson braved the waters and managed to open the plane door after it plunged into Lake Victoria while on a landing approach at Bukoba Airport.

The Precision Air flight PW 494 from Dar es Salaam was approaching the airport before it crash-landed in the tragic accident that has left 19 people, who were on board, dead.

Chalamila praised the young man for his heroic deed at the accident scene that left him unconscious forcing the emergency rescue officials to rush him to a nearby hospital.

He added, “Kijana ameokoa watu 24, ajali zote za ndege duniani hazijawahi kuponya mtu kienyeji.”

The overwhelmed young man could not contain his emotions and broke down in tears.
