A man was on Tuesday charged in a Mombasa court with attacking two policemen who accosted him over suspicion that he had smoked bhang.

Robert Kipchirchir and Enock Kipkorir told the court that they had been conducting a police patrol at Kibokoni area on October 29, 2022 when they stopped the suspect, Salim Nasoro.

According to the officers, Nasoro used the walking stick he had been using to assault Kipkorir on both legs as well as Kipchirchir on his left arm causing them serious injuries.

The incident involving the two officers in plainclothes who had attempted to question Nasoro is reported to have happened at the Mombasa Old Port at 3:20pm.

The court heard that man also reportedly grabbed Kipchirchir and bit him in the left arm, also leaving him with serious injuries before the duo overpowered and arrested him.

The two officers took Nasoro to the Mombasa Central Police Station in handcuffs as they sought medical attention at a dispensary nearby where they received their P3 forms.

However, Nasoro denied the charge before Mombasa Chief Magistrate Martha Mutuku and was freed on a Sh100,000 cash bail or a Sh200,000 bond and a surety of the same amount.

The case is set for mention on November 17.
