Former Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta has flown out of the county to South Africa for the peace talks between the Ethiopian government and Tigrayan People's Liberation Front (TPLF).

Uhuru was spotted arriving at the Department of International Relations and Cooperation (DIRCO) headquarters in Pretoria on Wednesday where the peace talks are being held.

This is the first formal peace talks the two feuding factions are holding after two years of a brutal war in the Tigray region.

The African Union (AU) is leading the negotiations after serious fighting was witnessed in the recent past, raising concerns among the international community for civilians.

The International Communities has appealed to the two feuding factions for a ceasefire, the withdrawal of Eritrean forces and humanitarian access to Tigray where many are facing hunger.

The Chief talks facilitator is the former President of Nigeria Olusegun Obasanjo who was also spotted arriving at South Africa's foreign affairs ministry headquarters where the talks are being held.

The peace talks that began on Monday whose are expected to continue until Sunday.

Initially, the talks were scheduled for October 8, 2022, and Uhuru failed to attend following conflicts in his schedule.

“Regrettably, I wish to notify your good office that I will not be able to attend the AU-Convened Peace Talks scheduled for October 8, 2022, in South Africa owing to conflicts in my schedule,” Uhuru said.
