Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday held talks with President William Ruto of Kenya to discuss the killing of Pakistani investigative journalist Arshad Sharif in Kajiado.

Shehbaz later revealed that, in the telephone call, he had asked Dr Ruto to ensure there is a fair and open investigation into the murder that left the whole world in shock.

The Pakistani PM revealed that President Ruto had pledged he would fully assist and also expedite the process of returning the body of the slain investigative journalist to Pakistan.

“Just had a telephonic call with Kenyan President William Ruto about the tragic death of Arshad Sharif in Kenya. I requested him to ensure fair & transparent investigation into shocking incident. He promised all-out help including fast-tracking the process of return of the body to Pakistan,” tweeted Shebaz on Monday.

Among those who mourned the fallen scribe include former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan, who referred to him as a valiant journalist who did not dread to speak the truth.

“Shocked at the brutal murder of Arshad Sharif who paid the ultimate price for speaking the truth - his life. He had to leave the country & be in hiding abroad but he continued to speak the truth on social media, exposing the powerful. Today the entire nation mourns his death," Khan tweeted on Monday.

Sharif was shot dead by police officers in Kenya on Sunday night in hat they have termed as “mistaken identity” in a shocking incident that has put Kenya on the spot over police killings.

Police reports indicated the scribe was shot in the head after the vehicle he and his brother were traveling in was sprayed with bullets by police officers in an alleged case of car theft.
