A team of multi-agency security personnel acting on a tipoff from concerned citizens on Friday nabbed a notorious highway robber who has been terrorising motorists in Turkana County.

The hardcore criminal was brought to book following an intense operation dubbed ‘Operation Komesha Uhalifu North Rift' that was launched because of the increased crime rate in the region.

Police have linked the suspect with the recent spate of criminal activities, including bandit attacks, and highway robberies in the Lorogon area in Turkana County.

The suspect identified as Gideon Emojong Angelo is also suspected to be the mastermind behind the theft of camels earlier this month in Kalemorok within the same area.

The suspect has been placed in custody at Kanuk Police Station as he awaits forward action.

The National Police Service thanked members of the public for their collaboration in the collective effort to end crime.

As the National Police Service, we extend our gratitude to members of the public for the continuous cooperation and collaboration in our joint efforts of ending crimes and nabbing criminals.

“As the National Police Service, we extend our gratitude to members of the public for the continuous cooperation and collaboration in our joint efforts of ending crimes, and nabbing criminals,” NPS said.

The suspect's arrest comes just a day after President William Ruto during the Mashujaa Day celebrations vowed to put an end to lawlessness in various parts of the country.

The president said the well-being of residents living in those areas experiencing disruptions and threats because of insecurity was paramount and they also deserved to live and work freely.

“There are parts of this country where personal safety and security are precarious, and life expectancy is low. Poverty and the cost of living are high because markets and supply chains have been disrupted or threatened by insecurity,” Ruto said.

Ruto said his administration initiated realignments in the security services to expedite the achievement of national security strategic objectives.
