A Nairobi court has deferred the Ksh.7.4 billion corruption case against Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and nine others.

This, according to the court, follows an application by Gachagua to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) seeking to have the corruption case against him reviewed.

The case facing Gachagua and the other nine had been listed to be heard for a total of three days but the accused failed to appear in person in court on Monday morning as expected.

The ODPP headed by Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji had asked the court for more time saying the office had received applications seeking a review of the case.

He was charged while serving as Mathira MP for duplicitously receiving Sh7.4 billion as proceeds of crime in dubious business tenders with the government between 2013 and 2020.

Gachagua faces six counts including fraudulent acquisition of public property, conspiracy to commit an offence of corruption, conflict of interest, money laundering and acquisition of proceeds of crime.

He is charged alongside former Mathira CDF manager William Mwangi and Jullianne Jahenda, Ann Nduta, Grace Wambui, Samuel Murimi, Irene Wambui, Lawrence Kimaru, David Nyangi and Rapid Medical Supplies Ltd.


They were charged with conspiring to commit an offence of corruption by defrauding Nyeri County of Sh27.4 million to supply dialysis machines for Nyeri Provincial General Hospital.

The case was postponed in September due to the Supreme Court case filed by Azimio La Umoja flagbearer Raila Odinga challenging the win by President William Ruto and Gachagua.

The case and many others were affected after the Milimani Law Courts were shut down from August 26 to allow the Supreme Court to hear and determine the presidential petition.

The court has ciredted that the matter now be heard on November 21.
