Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has indicated that the "Johnny-come-lately" in the ruling Kenya Kwanza coalition government will be rewarded last after those who joined it earlier before the General Election.

Gachagua said the President William Ruto government would dish out positions based what one contributed to it’s the Kenya Kwanza alliance win during the August 9 General Election.

Speaking after a thanksgiving church service at Koilel AIC, Uasin Gishu County, on Sunday, the straight-shooting DP said those who decamped to Kenya Kwanza after his win will only be considered after those who joined earlier.

“I want to say thank you to Wetangula, the people of Bungoma and Trans Nzoia; your votes helped us a lot. Thank you very much, our speaker. Ndiyo ujue unavuna ulichopanda. Si alitusaidia, sasa amepata spika. Wengine wanataka kuvuna pahali hawakupanda; wale walipanda, kwanza wavune. Tukimalizana na wale wote walipanda, wale hawakupanda wachukue yale yatabaki ndiyo tusonge mbele,” Gachagua said.

This comes after the Public Service Commission (PSC) expanded a list it had released on Friday of candidates shortlisted for Principal Secretary positions from 477 to 585 candidates.

PSC said it had revised the list “in order to increase inclusivity with regard to gender, the marginalised and minority groups, the youth and persons living with disability,” but it is widely seen as a move to include and eventually reward more Kenya Kwanza loyalists.

The move complicates matters for former Azimio La Umoja leaders led by James Ongwae, Kivutha Kibwana, Jack Ranguma and Fred Outa, Janet Ong'era, Olago Aluoch, who were latecomers to Kenya Kwanza coalition.

In his Uasin Gishu trip, Gachagua was flanked by National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula, Senator Kipchumba Murkomen and Governors Patrick Ole Ntutu (Narok) and Wesley Rotich (Elgeyo Marakwet) and National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung'wa.

Also present were Kenya Kwanza Senators Samson Cherargei (Nandi), Jackson Mandago (Uasin Gishu), Hillary Sigei (Bomet) and Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro, a close ally of Dr Ruto.
