The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has dismissed reports across a section of the media that the Sh588 million fraud case against the former Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu has been dropped.

The ODPP clarifies that the High Court did not drop the charges rather granted orders of prohibition regarding Waititu’s co-accused.

The ODPP issued a statement addressing the media reports on Thursday. 

“Contrary to media reports, the High Court has not dropped anti-corruption charges against Ferdinand Waititu but has only granted orders of prohibition in respect of five (5) of his co-accused persons who are members of the tender evaluation committee,” the statement read.

Contrary to the report that the case was dropped for lack of substantial evidence, the ODPP asserted it has presented evidence from 27 witnesses and the matter is still before the Chief Magistrates' court at Milimani Anti-corruption Division.
