Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni has promoted his son Lieutenant-General Muhoozi Kainerugaba to the rank of a full general amid an online spat with Kenyans On Twitter (KOT).

The former Major-General Kayanda Muhanga has also been promoted to replace Keinerugaba as the new Lieutenant-General.

Kainerugaba had earlier hinted about the changes in his tweets after holding discussions with his father.

"Had a good discussion with my great father this morning. Apparently, my tweets scared Kenyans too much. He will announce the changes. There is a special prayer I shall make for our army," Kainerugaba said.

Kainerugaba, a Ugandan military commander serving as the commander of the land forces of the Uganda People's Defence Force (UPDF) went on an unprovoked Twitter offensive against Kenya claiming would conquer Kenya’s capital city in two weeks before reducing it to just a week.

KOT did not take the gesture lying down and responded to Kainerugaba in kind, unleashing their often sarcastic and witty but stinging remarks, which sent the general retreat to his corner.

The Ugandan Foreign Ministry issued a statement distancing itself from Kainerugaba’s actions.
