The Inspector General of Police Hilary Mutyambai has requested to proceed on terminal leave on the grounds of his health situation.

President William Ruto on Tuesday announced in a press briefing at State House Nairobi that he has received Mutyambai's request and has accepted that he proceeds on his terminal leave.

"This afternoon also, I have received communication from the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Mutyambai of his request to proceed on terminal leave, because of his health situation," Ruto said.

"After discussing with Mr. Mutyambai and in consideration of his service to the nation and his health situation, I have accepted that Mr. Mutyambai will proceed on terminal leave in the six months that he has on his contract."

Mutyambai who has been out of office took medical leave on 26th August 2022

In the same briefing, the president announced he has also received the resignation of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Director George Kinoti.

Ruto said he has also accepted Kinoti's resignation and had already advised the National Police Service to advertise the position and have someone to work in his capacity until the next DCI boss is appointed.

"I have also received the resignation of the Director General of CID Mr. Kinoti and I have transmitted the same to the National Police Service to proceed with advertising that position and meanwhile they should get somebody to act in the place of Mr. Kinoti," Ruto said,"
