President Uhuru Kenyatta and First Lady Margaret Kenyatta on Monday hosted President-Elect William Ruto and his wife Rachel Ruto at State House, Nairobi for the first time since the August 9 General Election.

Ruto and his wife arrived at State House at around 4 pm and received a warm welcome from Uhuru and Margaret easing the tensions that have played out between Uhuru and his deputy.

The outgoing President and his First Lady received the incoming president and his First Lady as the two sides broke the ice and exchanged pleasantries as media cameras clicked away.

Uhuru and Ruto later held discussions as the outgoing President briefed his unexpected successor on State House affairs and the other heavy matters of state awaiting him.

Uhuru later took Ruto on a tour around the vast State House as Margaret also took Rachel from room to room before walking out to the plush gardens for more photo opportunities.

The Monday meeting came only a few hours before Ruto is slated to take his oath office an an inauguration slated for the Moi Sports Centre Kasarani Stadium in Nairobi on Tuesday.

During the Tuesday ceremony in which Ruto will be sworn in as the fifth president of the Republic of Kenya, Uhuru will officially hand over the instruments of power which will include a sword and a copy of the constitution.
