The Azimio la Umoja One Kenya leader Raila Odinga has issued his statement following the Supreme Court’s decision to uphold President-elect William Ruto’s victory in the August election.

Raila issued a statement on Monday shortly after the seven-judge bench delivered its ruling on the Presidential Election Petition Raila and his running mate Martha Karua filed at the Supreme Court challenging Ruto’s victory.

The former Prime Minister underscored the fact that they have always stood for the rule of law even as they disagreed with the ruling the Supreme-Court judges made.

"We have always stood for the rule of law and the constitution. In this regard, we respect the opinion of the court although we vehemently disagree with their decision," the statement read.

Raila asked his supporters to maintain calm as they uphold the rule of law.

He insisted that the Azimio legal team presented indisputable evidence before the court, noting that the judges did not consider any of the nine grounds they disputed the presidential election results.

“Our lawyers proffered irrefutable evidence and the facts were on our side, unfortunately the judges saw it otherwise. We find it incredible that the judges found against us on all nine (9) grounds and occasion resulted to unduly exaggerated language to refute our claims,” the statement read.

Raila also said the Supreme Court ruling will not dampen their spirit instead it will inspire them to increase their efforts to transform the nation in to a prosperous democracy.

“This judgement is by no means the end of our movement, in fact it inspires us to redouble our efforts to transform this country into a prosperous democracy where each and every Kenyan can find their full belonging,” Raila said.

Raila also seized the moment to once again thank their supporters for standing with them and said they would communicate their next plans soon.

“We thank our supporters and Kenyans across the country for standing with us. We will be communicating in the near future on our plans to continue our struggle for transparency, accountability and democracy,” Raila said.

Raila Odinga and his running mate Martha Karua filed the petition at the Supreme Court to challenge the Independent Electoral and Boundaries (IEBC) announcement that declared Ruto the winner of the presidential election.
