A number of roads within Nairobi City will be closed to members of the public and other motorists on ahead of the Supreme Court judgment on the consolidated election petition.

A statement by the National Police Service (NPS) on Sunday indicated that Ngong Road will be closed to other motorists at the junction of Ngong Road First Avenue, opposite NHIF.

Motorists will not be permitted to access the Nairobi Central Business District (CBD) through Kenyatta Avenue via Cathedral Road and are advised to use Haile Sellassie Avenue instead.

Police have also closed Cathedral Road/Milimani Ngong Road, which offers access to Milimani Law Courts, at Kenyatta Avenue, Valley Road Junction right outside NSSF building.

"Only vehicles heading to the court will be allowed. All other motorists are advised to use Valley Road," the statement read in part.

Also closed to other motorists is the Cathedral Road/Haile Selassie Avenue junction and motorists have instead been advised to use the Haile Selassie/Ngong Road alternative route.

The statement signed by Acting Inspector General of Police Noor Gabow urged Kenyans to avoid gathering in public ahead of the judgment and follow court proceedings from home.

“Access to the Supreme Court shall be limited to the public, and all roads leading to the court premises shall remain closed. Traffic police officers shall be deployed adequately to direct traffic around the court facility,” Noor said in the statement.
