A High Court has ordered the Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission (EACC) to freeze properties belonging to a Nairobi County Procurement Officer over corruption claims.

According to the EACC statement sent to newsrooms on Thursday, the officer identified as Michael Auka Ajwang’ got flagged after his wealth did not reflect his known sources of income.

EACC disclosed Ajwang’ earns a monthly salary of Sh21,000 and that was in the period between January 2014 and June 2022 totalling Sh2,122,233 in the same period.

Within the same period in question, Ajwang’ is said to have received monies amounting to Sh40,847,000 which the commission suspects to be proceeds of bribery activities by other companies awarded tenders by Nairobi County.

The court ordered EACC to seize nine properties and eleven vehicles belonging to Ajwang’ and also prohibited the transfer, disposal or any other dealings of the assets.

“Pending conclusion of investigations, EACC has obtained preservation orders prohibiting the transfer or disposal of or other dealing of the assets suspected to be proceeds of corruption pursuant to section 56(1) of the Anti-Corruption and Economic Crimes Act,” the statement read.

EACC seized nine parcels of land in spread across the country in Nairobi, Kisumu and Siaya Counties, a three-tar hotel along the Kisumu-Bondo highway and eleven vehicles.
