Newly elected Makueni Governor Mutula Kilonzo Junior's vehicle was early on Thursday reported to have been involved in a road accident hours before he was sworn into office.

Kilonzo’s car, which is reported to have been carrying three passengers at the time, is said to have veered off the Machakos-Wote highway before landing in a nearby ditch.

According to a report published by Citizen Digital, all three occupants of the governor’s car which was heading to Mutula’s inauguration managed to escape without any injuries.

Kilonzo was not in the car at the time of the said accident as he is reported to have arrived at Unoa grounds in Wote town, where the swearing in ceremony was being conducted.

The event was presided over by Justice Robert Limo as outgoing Governor Prof Kivutha Kibwana handed over the instruments of power to Kilonzo and his deputy Lucy Mulili.
