Another Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Returning Officer was on Monday reported to have passed on.

Geoffrey Gitobu, who served as the Returning Officer for Gichugu Constituency tallying centre in Kirinyaga is reported to have collapsed and died.

The cause of Gitobu’s mysterious death is yet to be established with police officers reported to have launched an investigation into the matter.

Gichugu was rocked by violence after supporters of Kirinyaga Governor Ann Waiguru and her challenger, Kirinyanga Woman Representative Wangui Ngirici clashed and disrupted ongoing tallying over counter-accusations of vote rigging.

This comes only six days after Daniel Mbolu Musyoka, IEBC’s Returning Officer for Embakasi East, was found dead after he went missing during the tallying process for the constituency.

Musyoka’s body was found in a forest at Mariko area near Amboseli National Park last week Monday in a murder that sent chills down the spines of poll officers and other Kenyans.

This also comes three days after Mohamed Kanyare, the IEBC Presiding Officer for Towheed polling centre in Elnur Tula Tula ward, Eldas constituency was amputated after being shot.

Kanyare was shot and seriously wounded by unknown attackers on election day and his leg amputated on Thursday at Wajir County Hospital where he had been rushed and admitted.
