The Azimio la Umoja One Kenya coalition has expressed confidence its petition challenging the presidential election results that declared Wiliam Ruto President-elect is watertight.

After filing the petition at the Milimani Law Courts on Monday, Azimio flagbearer Raila Odinga said the petition would prove their fraud allegations during the August 9 election.

Raila insisted that he won the presidential election but his victory was snatched away by those he termed as election corruption cartels who were hell-bent on capturing state power.

“A short while ago, we successfully filed our presidential election petition at the Supreme Court of Kenya. The action we have taken is perfectly in line with the stipulations of our constitution on resolving electoral disputes,” Raila said.

He added, “We have enough evidence that it is us who won the election. We didn’t have an election we can be proud of.”

His running mate Martha Karua reiterated his remarks as they submitted their bulky petition to the Supreme Court as the 14 days legally permitted for filing presidential petitions started.

Karua assured Azimio supporters the evidence they had gathered was sufficient to have Ruto’s victory annulled expressing hope the Supreme Court would deliver justice to them.

“We are assured that the Supreme Court will uphold the rule of law, and justice will be served. This is for The People,” Karua said.

Senior Counsel James Orengo, who leads the Azimio legal team, also expressed his confidence in the Supreme Court delivering a ruling that is favourable to Raila.

“We are very confident. I have participated in many petitions, but his one, I can tell you, is a bombshell, and we’ve got so many smoking guns. So, therefore, the conclusion is that we will have a determination in favour of Raila Odinga,” Orengo said.

Raila rejected the presidential election results announced by Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission chairman Wafula Chebukati on August 15 declaring Ruto winner.
