The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has proposed Monday next week to be the election date for the remaining wards, constituencies and counties following the postponement of the same.

This comes after the IEBC commissioners met with the candidates of the eight affected areas on Monday morning at the Bomas of Kenya.

"The 8 elections will be held on 29th of August 2022. The Commission assured the candidates that the elections will be free, fair and credible," IEBC said.

The elections in those areas were postponed after a mix-up of ballot papers was discovered ahead of the previous election in Mombasa and Kakamega counties.

Several parliamentary elections were also affected by the postponement, including Kacheliba, Kitui Rural, Pokot South and Rongai constituencies while Kwa Njenga Ward in Embakasi South, Nairobi County and Nyaki West Ward in North Imenti, Meru County were also affected.

Initially, IEBC had set Tuesday as the election day in those areas but later suspended them again, citing insecurity reasons.

The candidates contesting in the races are now given about four days to campaign for the positions they are seeking elections for.

This is the first time Chebukati was meeting the four dissenting IEBC commissioners; Vice Chairperson Juliana Cherera, Justus Nyang'aya, Francis Wanderi and Irene Masit, after a fallout at Bomas over his decision to declare William Ruto winner, a move challenged by Raila Odinga.
