Corruption convicts, Sirisia MP John Waluke and Grace Wakhungu have finally been released on bail pending the hearing of an appeal they had filed against their sentencing.

Waluke has been freed on a Sh10 million bail and his business partner Wakhungu on a Sh20 million cash bail and both were ordered to deposit their passports with the Court.

Grace Wakhungu is the mother of Kenya's Ambassador to France Prof Judy Wakhungu, who once served as a Cabinet Secretary for Environment.

On Friday Justice John Onyiego pushed the bail ruling to Monday owing to a fumigation exercise that was going on at the Milimani law courts.

Waluke and Wakhungu were convicted of fraud after being found guilty in case involving Sh313 million in dubious dealing in maize with the National Cereal and Produce Board (NCPB).

Waluke received a 67-year sentence with the option of a fine of Sh1 billion while Wakhungu was sentenced to serve 69 years in prison with an option of a fine of Sh1 billion.

Waluke has asked the court to free him on bail on the basis of his parliamentary seat, advanced age and further claimed he suffered from diabetes and a hypertension.
