Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Returning Officer for Embakasi East, Daniel Mbolu Musyoka, who went missing on Tuesday, has been found dead.

A group of herders discovered Musyoka’s body early Monday in Kilombero forest at the foot of Mount Kilimanjaro, an area that has earned a reputation as a dumping site for murder victims.

The herders alerted the police from Kajiado South Sub-county about a body they described as the body of a middle-aged man

Loitokitok Police Boss Kipruto Ruto confirmed the discovery and said two of Musyoka’s sisters positively identified the body which was moved to Loitokitok Sub-county Hospital

"His two sisters identified the body lying at Loitoktok sub county hospital last night. We are waiting communication from police headquarters either to ferry the body to city mortuary or to remain here," Kipruto said.

According to Kipruto, Musoka’s body which was discovered naked, showed signs of struggle and torture and a man’s clothes, including a track suit and a Maasai wrapper, believed to be his were found at the valley nearby.

Kipruto also disclosed there was evidence Musyoka was killed elsewhere before being dumped in the valley.

"It is evident that the victim was killed elsewhere and the body dumped in the valley. The body has scars indicating torture before the death. He possibly died a painful death,” Ruto said.

IEBC chairperson Wafula Chebukati announced Musyoka went missing on Tuesday at 9:45 am at the East African School of Aviation where the tallying process of the presidential election results from the Embakasi East constituency was ongoing after he excused himself for a phone call.
