Kenyans are at the edge of their seats as they wait for the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) chairperson Wafula Chebukati to announce the presidential election results.

Shops and business outlets have closed down in various towns to allow staff to follow the proceedings at the Bomas of Kenya.

The IEBC earlier announced that Chebukati would announce the presidential results on Monday at 3:00 pm.


However, a subsequent announcement came through saying the exercise was postponed to 4:00 pm.

A quick look through the Nairobi Central Business District has revealed that most retail shops that were open in the morning were closed by noon.


One of the largest retail outlets Carrefour Kenya has announced to its customers that it will close early on Monday.

“DEAR ESTEEMED CUSTOMERS, This is to inform you that all our stores will be closed today exceptionally at 5:00PM on Monday 15th August, 2022,” Carrefour wrote.

In other parts of the country, the tension is running high and likewise, shops and businesses have been closed in anticipation of the major announcement.

Thousands have poured onto major streets of Kisumu, which is perceived as Azimio la Umoja One Kenya coalition presidential hopeful Raila Odinga’s backyard in anticipation of his win.

It is songs, chants and jubilations in praise of the veteran politician.

Residents of Uasin Gishu, which is Deputy President William Ruto’s home have also been reported to throng town and village centres eagerly waiting for the IEBC announcement.
