Fugitive MP-elect for Kimilili Constituency Didmus Barasa has filed an application through his lawyer Senior Counsel John Khaminwa for bail pending his arrest.

Khaminwa wrote a letter on Thursday to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and the Inspector General of Police alerting them of the move.

“TAKE NOTICE today that Messrs Khaminwa and Khaminwa Advocates have filed an application on behalf of the Hon. Didmus Barasa, M.P. for bail pending arrest,” the notice read.

“As soon as the application is heard and appropriate orders are made you will be advised accordingly by the said law firm.”

Barasa is wanted in connection to a shooting incident which occurred on Tuesday at Chebukhwabi Primary School polling station in Kimilili Constituency in which he is alleged to have shot dead one Brian Olunga, an aide to his opponent Brian Khaemba.

He has since gone into hiding just playing hide and seek with the authorities occasionally updating his social media accounts from undisclosed locations.

The DCI gave him a 6-hour ultimatum to surrender to the nearest police station as they mounted a spirited manhunt for the MP.
