Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Saturday recovered the murder weapons used in the gruesome killings of 4 family members and a worker in Kiambu.

The prime suspect in the shocking murders, 22-year-old Lawrence Simon Warunge, led the officers from the DCI homicide unit to the spot where he disposed of the murder weapons.

The sleuths also recovered other key exhibits in a pit latrine in Mai Mahiu where the key suspect had hidden them after the murders that have left the country reeling in shock.

DCI has termed the findings a major breakthrough in unraveling the puzzle surrounding the Kiambu killings committed in the dead of the night leaving left 5 people dead in a bloody scene.

According to DCI, the retrieved items will be crucial in “placing the author of the heinous crime at the centre of the killings”.

The recovered items are expected to be subjected to further forensic analysis at the DCI Forensic Lab to provide a watertight case for the prosecution, once presented in court.
