Kisumu City Manager Abala Wanga has announced the closure of all pubs, supermarkets and hotels in Kisumu on Tuesday from 6.00 am to 5.00 pm to allow city residents to vote.

Abala was speaking in Kisumu where he said all businesses operating within Kisumu City will be closed from Monday midnight to pave the way for the general election.

However, Abala noted that nobody is being forced to close their businesses rather requesting people to utilise that time to go and vote first before enjoying their holiday.

"We are asking and not forcing, in a circular to be released that we close business activities, to look like a public holiday to allow people to go and vote first," Abala said.

Abala advised residents of the city who wish to shop for basic commodities such as foodstuff to do so on Sunday and Monday.

The only sector that will be allowed to operate is the transport sector to allow boda boda and matatu operators to ferry people to their respective polling stations.

Business in the city will resume as usual once the voting exercise is over
