President Uhuru Kenyatta has told off his critics in the Kenya Kwanza Alliance who have a problem with him supporting his preferred candidate ahead of the August 9 general election.

Uhuru was speaking on Sunday after launching the mega projects in Nairobi when he said everyone including him has the freedom to support whoever they please.

“Everyone, including me, has the freedom to root for whoever they please, so you support one person and the other person supports the other but the decision lies in the hands of the citizens,” Uhuru said.

The president told off his deputy William Ruto, saying there was no point in insulting and attacking him for his political stand.

“There is no point in insults or attacking other people,” he continued.

Uhuru also told Ruto that he did not have to call him names or claim Uhuru wanted to murder him because he and his team have been insulting him for a long but he did not take any action even though he was at the helm of power.

“If I call you out for telling lies there is no point telling people that I want to murder you. You have been insulting me for almost three years. Has someone ever touched you?” Uhuru posed.

“Throughout those three years have I not been on the seat (President’s), did I not have the capacity? Did I even have the time to look for you?”

Uhuru challenged Ruto to sell his policies and hunt for votes and spare him the rhetoric.

“Tell your stories and sell your policies and leave me alone. I am just doing my job and ending my tenure. You go out and ask for votes and if the citizens vote for you, then it is okay and if they deny you, we will go home together. Where is the problem?” Uhuru asked.

The president was responding to claims by a section of leaders from the Kenya Kwanza Alliance including Ruto, his deputy Rigathi Gachagua, Moses Kuria and others who have all come out claiming that Uhuru has threatened their lives.
