Nairobi gubernatorial aspirant Johnson Sakaja has withdrawn the suit he filed against the Commission for University Education (CUE).

Sakaja filed the case against CUE after the commission revoked his Team University degree from Uganda.

This comes a few days after another court dismissed another petition to bar the senator from the gubernatorial race based on the validity of his academic credentials.

According to Justice Jairus Ngaah of the Judicial Review Court said Sakaja had filed a notice for withdrawal of the case on Tuesday when the case was called out.

“The suit is marked as withdrawn with no orders as to costs,” Ngaah said.

Sakaja, in his suit, wanted the court to quash the decision by CUE to revoke his Team University degree.

Through his lawyers Elias Mutuma and Adrian Kimotho, Sakaja argued the revocation was politically instigated and was not only illegal but also discriminatory against him.

"Mr Sakaja is aggrieved by the decision of CUE because the said decision was unfairly and discriminately against him and in favour of his political rivals," Mutuma said.

Furthermore, Mutuma said the decision was arrived at unreasonably and unjustly.

"The decision was unjustly arrived at being on political and unfair grounds. Mr Sakaja was not accorded a fair hearing nor were any substantial reasons provided as to the decision made," Mutuma said.

On June 14, 2022, CUE announced it had revoked its recognition of Sakaja’s degree, which it had earlier acknowledged and confirmed the same to the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission.

CUE chairman Chacha Nyaigoti while revoking Sakaja’s certification said the commission had received material information that raised questions about the credibility of Sakaja’s academic credentials.
