The Azimio la Umoja presidential flag bearer Raila Odinga has asked Imran Okoth, the incumbent Kibera MP to shelve his bid to defend his seat in the August election for a lucrative appointment in his administration if he wins the election.

Raila made the request to Imran on Sunday while he was on a campaign trail in the area.

He asked Imran to step down from the Kibera parliamentary race in favour of another aspirant Peter Orero Mwalimu.

“I would like you to tell my son Imran that I will hold his hand so he should allow Mwalimu to take over,” Raila said.

The former premier expressed his confidence in winning the August election and promises Imran that he will be with him in his administration.

“I will be with Imran in my administration. Let him allow Mwalimu to continue here in Kibera,” he said.

Raila said both Imran and Mwalimu are his children therefore they should not squabble over the Kibera seat because he needs one to remain in the seat and the other to be in his administration.

“Both of them are my people. I do not want them to fight like this. I want one to be on this side (government) and the other one to continue in parliament,” Raila said.

In April, during the ODM party primaries, Imran lost the Kibera ODM parliamentary ticket to Orero who won with 3,422 votes against Imran’s 2,739 votes.

However, Imran did not take it easy and announced he would defend his seat on an Independent ticket.
