The Kenya Kwanza presidential running mate Rigathi Gachagua has sworn to recover his money that was frozen in his accounts by the court after being linked to fraudulent dealings if Kenya Kwanza wins the August election.

Gachagua was speaking in his Mathira backyard on Tuesday during a political rally in the region.

Gachagua said if Kenya Kwanza wins he will recover the money that was frozen in 2020 when the source of Sh12.5 billion that passed through his bank accounts was questioned.

“And you know if we take over the government, you know this government froze my money. When we take over, the money will be unfrozen,” Gachagua said.

The Mathira MP said that once the funds are accessible to him, he will construct a lounge at his home where men will enjoy some ‘nyama choma’ over some drink and another area for the women where they would engage his wife over porridge.

"You are aware that the government has frozen my account. I'll get my money back when we win the election, then I'll come to Kieni and build a house so you can come and see me. I'll construct a nice residence, as well as a nice lounge for men to grill meat and drink what we drink as we chat,” Gachagua said.

"Then for women, I will put up a place where they can be visiting Mama Gachagua to take porridge as they sing and praise. And because women love dancing I will have some system for them.”

Three personal accounts at the Rafiki Microfinance Bank belonging to Gachagua were frozen in May 2020 when Senior Resident Magistrate Muthoni Nzibe granted a request by the Asset Recovery Agency (ARA) to have the accounts frozen.

Gachagua was accused of being involved in a complex scheme of money laundering.
