Somalia’s president Hassan Sheikh Mohamud is in isolation after testing positive for coronavirus.

Mohamud tested positive for Covid-19  after returning to his country from his first official trip to the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

He took to his social media accounts to announce that he has tested positive.

“My fellow citizens, I would like to inform you that today I tested positive for COVID-19,” Mohamud said.

However, he said he was asymptomatic but would continue to self-isolate and serve his people from home.

“So far, I have no symptoms, but I will continue to self-isolate and serve the people of #Somalia from home,” he said.

He asked the people of Somalia to observe public health advice and guidelines.

Mohamud was elected on May 5, 2022, and was inaugurated as the president of Somalia for the second time on June 9, 2022, in a ceremony that was attended by many heads of state including President Uhuru Kenyatta.
