A prison Warden is reported to have shot dead an Administration Police officer, who is his girlfriend’s ex-husband, following a bitter quarrel at the woman’s house on Monday morning. 

According to a police report, the incident involving Constable Kering Kipkosgei and Corporal Bonface Mithamo Ngaragari of Kianyaga happened at Mwea GK Prisons senior staff quarters.

The report indicates that Kipskogei had visited the house of Sergeant Esther Muthoni, who is also based at Mwea GK Prison and is reportedly his girlfriend.

However, as the couple was having dinner with her children her former husband, Mithamo, charged into the house and confronted Kipkosgei over his presence in the house.

He then started beating up Kipkosgei and removed his shirt prompting Muthoni to intervene to separated them and she managed to remove the irate Mithamo from her house.

But on reaching the kitchen, Kipkosgei drew his Ceska pistol and fatally shot Mithamo on the right side of his neck with the bullet exiting on the left side of his head.

Corporal Kipkosgei then ran outside and shot himself in the head and the two were rushed to Karira Mission Hospital where they were pronounced dead on arrival.

Wanguru Police Station and Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) officers retrieved the pistol and 11 rounds of ammunition, 4 spent cartridges and 1 bullet head belonging to Mwea GK Prison.

A Subaru car registration GKB 476J believed to belong to DCC Kirinyaga East was also retrieved.

The two bodies were moved to the Karira Mission Hospital mortuary to await postmortem as police launched an investigation into the two deaths.
