The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission IEBC has confirmed that the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition presidential candidate Raila Odinga is eligible to run for the country’s presidency.

This was affirmed by the commission’s CEO Hussein Marjan, during an interview on one of the local TV stations.

Marjan said that by the time the Presidential Returning Officer Wafula Chebukati cleared Raila to contest for the presidency, he had already assessed Raila’s credentials and confirmed that he met all the requirements.

“By the time Chebukati was clearing him he had certified that the candidate had met all the requirements. Raila Odinga met the requirements,” Marjan said.

Marjan was responding to a query raised by a caller who wanted to know if Raila’s academic credentials were valid.

Marjan’s response puts to rest the concerns that have been raised about Raila’s academic qualifications, especially by a section of Kenyans who support the Kenya Kwanza Alliance presidential candidate William Ruto.

One such individual is the UDA Secretary-General Veronica Maina who raises a similar query on Tuesday during an interview on another TV station.

“You have seen a lot of headlines questioning the university that our biggest opponent, Hon. Raila Amolo Odinga, qualified from,” Maina said.

This comes amid questions rising concerning Nairobi UDA presidential candidate Johnson Sakaja’s university degree.
