Macharia said that in a statement on Tuesday when he noted how much the Nairobi Expressway has reduced traffic jams that were characteristic of Mombasa Road.

According to Macharia, the Expressway, which has been in a pilot phase over the past weeks has registered success in the number of its users.

“The road has been on a pilot phase over the last two weeks and so far we can say that it has been a success by the number of vehicles that we see there, at times over 31,000 on a daily basis,” said the Macharia said.

Macharia advised motorists planning to use the Nairobi Expressway to register for the Manual Tolling Card (MTC) or the Electronic Tolling Card (ETC) to reduce the slight snarl-up that was reported over the trial period.

The little snarl-up has been attributed to longer times used to process payments.

“What I would urge Kenyans is to get either the ETC or the MTC to reduce traffic on the expressway,” the CS said.

Motorists will spend Sh1300 to register for the MTC of which Sh300 will be a service charge and Sh1000 will be loaded onto the card for the motorist’s use.

Motorists looking to register for the ETC will be required to avail of their Identity Cards and the Logbooks of the vehicles they want to register before paying Sh3000; Sh1000 will be a service charge while Sh2000 will be credited to their card.
