The Wiper party has dismissed claims by a section of the media that the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) barred its presidential candidate leader Kalonzo Musyoka from contesting in the August Election.

The party, through its National Elections Board chair Agatha Solitei said Kalonzo is still in the race pending submission of soft copies of Wiper's list of supporters in excel file format by Sunday 9 am.

The wiper party had presented the list of signatures in the PDF file format which was not accepted by the commission but was given time to have the list in the required format.

Solitei revealed those details in a tweet she shared with the IEBC letter to the Wiper party.

"During the said pre-nomination meeting, where Wiper Democratic Movement Party was represented, the Commission re-emphasized the requirement that Aspirants submit the list of supporters in both hardcopy and softcopy in excel format," the letter read.

"Following deliberations, the Commission in the spirit of Article 83(3) of the Constitution extended the deadline for submission of lists of supporters in the prescribed format to Wednesday 25th May 2022 to enable Aspirants comply. However, by the said deadline date your party had submitted all requirements save the saft copy version of your list of supporters which was submitted in PDF format and not excel."

"The Commission has considered and acceded to your request to be allowed to submit the soft copy of your list of supporters in excel format by 29th May 2022 at 9:00 am at the Bomas of Kenya, failing which your documentation will not be certified as compliant."

According to Solitei, the Wiper party complied with the IEBC requirement on Wednesday.

"The National Elections Board (NEB) of the Wiper Democratic Movement wishes to clarify, that pursuant to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission's (IEBC) directive that electronic signatures be submitted by the 25th May 2022, our party, the Wiper Democratic Movement, fully complied and its submission was duly acknowledged on 25th May 2022," Solitei said.

The Wiper party reminded the media of their role in the promotion of honest and accurate reportage.

"We the Wiper Democratic Movement Party Elections Board, while taking great exception with this nature of reporting, reminds the Fourth and Fifth Estates of their crucial role in the promotion of honest and accurate reportage, and remind that we are bound by the electoral code of discharging our constitutional rights," Wiper said.
