The online spat between Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala and Kilimani MCA aspirant Robert Alai has taken a turn for the ugly.

The spat started when Alai called out Malala for his police demeaning remarks and produced a certificate alleging it was Malala’s that showed the senator did not do any better than what he purported was a failure during his Khwisero rally.

This forced Malala to produce copies of certificates and during an interview with one of the local radio stations, Malala carried his academic certificates, including one he received from the United States International University USIU dated 2019.

However, Alai who is an alumnus of USIU did not let the matter rest and went ahead to look for Malala’s name in the list of 2019 graduates and allegedly found it missing.

He accused Malala of fraudulently getting his USIU certificate, saying he is yet to finish four courses including the final project.

“Cleophas Malala has published this as his authentic USIU degree cert. This document was FRAUDULENTLY obtained,” Alai said.

“From USIU records where I am an alumnus, Malala started going to school 12 years ago. He still hasn't finished 4 courses including the final project.”

In a reckless and cutting rejoinder, Malala took a swipe at Alai, telling him he would not tell how a university degree looks, saying it resembles a circumcision certificate.

Malala, in his response insinuated that Alai who comes from a community which does not practise the rite is not circumcised thus his inability to tell how a university degree looks.

“Someone advise @RobertAlai that a university degree certificate somehow resembles a circumcision certificate,” Malala tweeted.

"If you don't know the latter you can't tell the former."

Alai who is not known as one to shy away from controversy still came back Malala's tweet and in a witty matter told him that all he could do is to fight dirty but not address issues raised effectively.

“This is why we mustn’t allow fools like you as governor,” Alai tweeted

“When you can’t effectively address issues raised, your best bet are below the belt.”

“Malala you didn’t graduate from USIU. You bought the cert from someone in the office of the registrar but you didn’t graduate.”

Malala recently sparked controversy with his degrading remarks about police officers' qualification for their job.
