A Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) soldier was lynched by a mob in Nairobi’s Utawala area after a man and his fiancée raised alarm accusing him of being a thug on Saturday night.

The KDF soldier who was with his brother is reported to have gotten into a brawl with the couple after he allegedly winked at the woman as left Fahari Hotel headed home in Utawala.

The two sides, according to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), then started throwing stones at each other escalating the confrontation.

“An argument ensued culminating in a stone-throwing match pitting the couple on one end and the sergeant on the other,” said DCI.

DCI said that on sensing defeat, the couple raised alarm alleging that the soldier and his brother were robbers resulting in the KDF serjeant being beaten senseless until he breathed his last.

DCI said, “When the couple was overpowered, they raised the alarm, claiming they had been attacked by robbers. As a result, a mob of six men came to the couple’s rescue and beat up the sergeant to death. His (KDF officer’s) brother escaped (death) by a whisker.”

Five people have so far been arrested over the KDF soldier’s death and are expected to be arraigned on Monday.
