Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) detectives based at Parklands arrested 5 suspects among them 3 women for kidnapping a man and demanding ransom before setting him free.


The suspects were identified as Joseph Makau Mulatya, Patrick Wekesa Omosa, Rehema Njeri, Vigilance Mumbi and Hadija Ong’ai.

This kind of crime has gained popularity and only comes second to the infamous ‘mchele’ syndicate.

In this criminal activity, the women are used to lure unsuspecting men from various social networking platforms before leading them on, to a room where the man is later held hostage and is required to secure his freedom in exchange for some currency.

Investigations revealed these 3 women in a well-choreographed plan prey on unsuspecting men especially those of Caucasian origin locally known as ‘wazungu’ online and lure them with irresistible offers which include spending blissful moments together.

The men are usually taken to a house behind the Ruaraka Naivas Supermarket where they look forward to exploring the good things this life has to offer with two or three women depending on their preference.


However, moments before they get to business, a mighty thud on the door usually interrupts the occasion and in comes a man who poses as one of the women’s boyfriend throwing tantrums and threatening to dispatch the poor victims to meet their creator.

What follows are demands for a ransom depending on how deep one’s pockets are.

The criminal team was going about their normal operations on Thursday, oblivious to the fact that a special team of detectives was on their trail.


All hell broke loose when the detectives ambushed the criminals in that house and found the victim stripped naked.

Meanwhile, the criminals were eagerly waiting for an MPESA transaction of Sh100,000 to go through before setting the man free.

Apparently, the man had called his relatives, claiming he had been involved in an accident and needed that amount urgently for treatment.

The detective linked the criminals to another similar incident that happened in April where the criminals accosted a man in Parklands and robbed him of his Sh450,000.


The Parklands victim positively identified the victims as the same people who cleaned his bank account.

The five criminals were arrested and processed to be arraigned in court on Friday to answer to robbery with violence charges.
