Deputy President William Ruto broke protocol by inviting Azimio la Umoja One Kenya coalition presidential running Martha Karua to speak during the National Prayer Breakfast meeting at Safari Park Hotel on Thursday.

Ruto invited Karua to speak on behalf of Raila Odinga who did not attend the event.

It is usually custom that after the deputy president's speech, he invites the head of state to give his speech.

"So, before I conclude my remarks. In the absence of, My brother the Honorable Raila Odinga, who is my main competitor in this election. I'm going to ask my sister Martha Karua...allow me to break that protocol so that she can come and make some few remarks. Karibu Martha," Ruto said.

This year's National Prayer Breakfast's theme is 'Transitions' which is apt because the country is only 77 days away from a general election and the leadership of the country will transition from President Uhuru Kenyatta to whoever will win the elections.
