Twenty-two-year-old Alvin Linus Chivondo who pleaded guilty to shoplifting at Naivas Supermarket in April 2022 and was released after former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko saved him from imprisonment has been at it again.

Chivondo was arrested on Thursday allegedly for stealing from another supermarket along Ronald Ngala Street in Nairobi’s Central Business District.

This time around, Chivondo was accused of stealing maize from the supermarket.

Chivondo is currently being held in custody at the Central Police Station awaiting arraignment in court after police complete their investigations.

This incident comes barely two months after Chivondo was arrested and arraigned in court for stealing a variety of foodstuff from Naivas Supermarket along Moi Avenue.

He pleaded guilty to shoplifting five litres of Fresh Fri cooking oil, a packet of rice, and a packet of sugar among other foodstuffs with a total value of Sh3,165.

Milimani Chief Magistrate Wendy Kagendo Micheni sentenced Chivondo to one year in prison or pay an alternative Sh100,000 fine after declining Chivondo’s prayer for clemency, saying Chivondo was dishonest and a perpetual thief.

It was Sonko who to the lad’s rescue and bailed him out of the sticky situation.

Apart from paying the Sh100,000 fine, Sonko also gave him a month’s supply of food and offered him a job.

Only Chivondo and his God know what transpired after the gesture.
