Suna East MP Junet Mohamed has reacted to Kenya Kwanza Alliance presidential candidate William Ruto’s remarks regarding the selection of Martha Karua as Azimio la Umoja One Kenya coalition presidential running mate.

Junet asked Ruto not to demean Karua by calling her names that are inappropriate.

Junet was speaking during an Azimio political rally in Kilgoris, Narok County on Saturday

“I have heard he (Ruto) has said Raila has only picked one woman here. Stop being disrespectful. Respect women. That lady is called Honourable Martha Karua. Please stop being disrespectful,” Junet said.

Junet also noted Raila Odinga has given respect to women by creating the opportunity for Karua to become the first woman deputy president of Kenya if Azimio wins the August election.

Kisii senatorial aspirant Richard Onyonka echoed Junet’s remarks and said Ruto’s insults at Karua whom he termed a learned and humble person were wrong.

"We have told Ruto we don't have an issue with his campaigns, but the insults towards an honourable, learned and humble woman such as Martha Karua are wrong," Onyonka said.

The Azimio politicians were reacting to remarks Ruto made in Embu during the Embu Economic Forum event.

Ruto claimed Raila picked Karua as his running mate out of confusion while trying to counter Kenya Kwanza’s plan for ‘mama mboga’.
