The Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition presidential running mate Martha Karua received a heroine's welcome to her Kirinyaga hometown during her Tuesday visit.

Karua visited Kirinyaga just a day after Raila Odinga named her as his running mate ahead of the August general elections.

Kirinyaga residents came out in their droves and lined up along the Nairobi-Nyeri highway to receive their own with songs and jubilation.

The eager residents waited for their leader all the way from the Sagana bridge.

Kieni MP and Jubilee party's director of election Kanini Kega accompanied Karua during her visit to Kirinyaga.

Kirinyaga County Deputy Governor Peter Ndambiri also accompanied Karua alongside other NARC-Kenya leaders.

The leaders congratulated Karua on her nomination for the position of Raila's running mate.
