A 19-year-old Form 3 student at Keben Secondary School in Sosiot, Kericho County has killed his 22-year-old classmate over a relationship gone sour.

The incident that occurred on Wednesday morning shocked members of the village after the student named Tony Kiptoo stabbed his ex-girlfriend identified as Irene Chelagat to death.

The students were about to start their first lesson when Kiptoo committed the heinous act after Chelagat turned him down and moved on.

Kiptoo concealed a kitchen knife with which he used to attack Chelagat and deal the fatal blow.

Preliminary investigations conducted by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) detectives based in Belgut revealed the two earlier had a steamy relationship before it ended and the lady moved on.

Apparently, Kiptoo, being one who could not handle rejection had already wished his estranged ex-girlfriend peace in the afterlife by inscribing the initials R.I.P. on a photograph that was later discovered in his cubicle.

According to reports, Kiptoo became furious after discovering his former lover had a new catch who had already bought her a brand new smartphone.

Kiptoo stabbed Chelagat on the left side of her chest, killing her instantly.

Screams and commotion alerted the teacher on duty Kenneth Korir who rushed to the classroom to find out what the matter was.

Korir found some students roughing up Kiptoo while others were trying to help Chelagat who by that time was bleeding profusely.

They rushed Chelagat to Sosiot Medical Centre, where she was pronounced dead on arrival.

Kiptoo was taken to court on Thursday where detectives sought custodial orders to allow for adequate time to build a watertight case against him.
