A National Steering Committee comprising representatives from the Government and members of President Mwai Kibaki has been formed following the passing of Kenya’s third president.

This was announced on in a press release issued on Friday afternoon by the Head of Public Service Joseph Kinyua.

“Following the issuance of the Presidential Proclamation on the passing on of former President Mwai Kibaki, it is most graciously notified that a National Funeral Steering Committee has been constituted; featuring representatives from the Government and members of the Third President’s family,” Kinyua said.

According to the press release, the committee will convene on Saturday for its first meeting, and will in due course issue a detailed programme of the events leading up to the State Funeral. 

The programme of events shall include the dates and venues where the family shall receive visitors, and shall accord all Kenyans the opportunity to take part in paying of last respects to the former Head of State and Government.

Kinyua also said that the late Kibaki family acknowledges the messages of consolation being sent from all corners of the world.

“The family of the Late Mwai Kibaki acknowledges the outpouring of sympathy and the condolences messages received from all corners of the globe,” Kinyua said.

He also said that during this period of mourning and grief, the family of President Kibaki is finding strength in the goodwill, thoughts, and prayers of all those who grieve the passing away of Kenya’s Third President.
