Police have arrested suspects who were captured on CCTV footage in Mombasa’s Old Town terrorising innocent citizens.

The video that emerged on Tuesday showed a gang of about 15 thugs assaulting their victims in two separate incidents.

Following the criminal incidents, a team of officers drawn from Mombasa Police Station and the Anti Terror Police Unit (ATPU) from the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) were deployed to the area in an operation to bring the suspects to book.

On Thursday evening, five of the suspects captured on the CCTV footage were arrested separately in Kokowani, Kibokoni and Madaraka areas of Mombasa town.

The suspects who were arrested on Thursday were identified as Noordin Mohamed alias Mbavu Nene, Brian Otutu, Abdalla Mohamed alias Mbulo, Ahmed Ali and Vidic Nzilu.

The detectives have since established that the five suspects are members of a notorious criminal outfit known as the ‘Haipangwi’ gang.

‘Haipangwi’ has been responsible for the sudden spate of crime in Mombasa Old town.

Consequently, the police have now focused their attention on the town to annihilate the ‘Haipangwi’ gang.

The police have advised the members of the hang who are still at large that if they do not surrender, they will suffer a similar fate as the infamous ‘katombi’ gang members.
