The Azimio One Kenya Alliance has resolved to form a panel that will recommend the most suitable candidates for nomination as running mate to presidential candidate Raila Odinga.

The move is meant to help the alliance navigate the tumultuous selection of a running mate that has seen the coalition leaders engage in wrangles over who is best suited for the post.

“The coalition also resolved to appoint an advisory panel to recommend to the presidential candidate suitable candidates for nomination as the deputy presidential candidate,” announced Junet Mohamed after the KICC meeting.

The decision was made during the first Azimio Council meeting chaired by President Uhuru Kenyatta at the Kenya International Convention Center (KICC) in Nairobi on Thursday.

Wiper Leader Kalonzo Musyoka has recently insisted that he should be Raila’s running mate, with others touted for the post including Martha Karua, CS Peter Munya and Peter Kenneth.

The Azimio On Kenya Council also mandated the National Coalition Executive Committee to immediately recommend suitable qualified persons to be appointed to the following organs;

• Coalition Election Board

• Coalitions elections Appeal Board

• National Disciplinary Committee

• Dispute Resolution panel

It further directed the National Coalition Executive Committee to prepare an election campaign strategy and plan that will ensure the Raila wins the August presidential election, Azimio forms the next government and majority in the National and County Assemblies.

Also present at the KICC meeting were Martha Karua, Gideon Moi, Kalonzo Musyoka, Charity Ngilu, Wafula Wamunyinyi among others.

This is the first meeting the council is meeting after the gazettement of the officials of the Azimio One Kenya Coalition last week following weeks of ironing out arising issues.
