The Communications Authority has extended the ongoing SIM card registration exercise by 6 months.

This comes after the deadline the authority initially issued was lapsing at midnight on April 15, 2022.

This comes after the authority held successful talks with telcos to work out a way to extend the deadline following complaints by Kenyans of the limited time they had to register or update their details.

This has come as a relief to Kenyans who were concerned that their lines were going to be deactivated after the deadline.

The government also threatened to send Kenyans who failed to register or update their details with their respective providers with a hefty Sh300,000 or a one-year jail term or both.

The new deadline for registration has been set for October 15, 2022.
